Recent economic issues caused a local community, with an approximate patient population of 40,000, to lose their jobs and experience financial hardship. Many patients hadn’t seen a primary care physician in years and used hospital emergency departments for non-emergency episodes such as headaches, gingivitis, and lower back pain.
